A trek up to Bhrugu Lake in Himachal

Bhrigu Lake is a high altitude lake at 4200 meters, around 6 km from Gulaba village in Himachal (off Manali), and is a 3-4 day trek. Ideally, it can be a 2 day trek from Gulaba if everyone is fit.

The first day was a drive for 2 hours from Manali to Gulaba, followed by a walk up to camp around 0.5 km away.

The drive from Manali to Gulaba took very long on account of the traffic jam

On the second day, we walked around 3 kms up to the second camp.

A flock of sheep and the shepherd give some idea of the scale of the mountains.

Another panorama.

Wild flowers have a beauty all their own.

We made camp the second day here

Around a 100-150 people visit Bhrigu Lake every day

Yes, the Sun is the nearest star! Taken in the afternoon as the sun beat down on the snow!

The final walk to Bhrigu lake is a snow trek.

The snow capped peaks of the Himalayas surround you - a panoramic view.

Bhrigu Lake is a dirty little semi-frozen pool that we reached 3 hours after we started on the second day. Not worth dipping your feet in. By now, I realize the destination is just an excuse for the journey!

Me (just for scale), with Bhrigu Lake in the background.

Golden sun over snowy peaks.

Fire in the Mountain!

Sunset over the Pir Panjal range in the Himalayas

Venus is the brightest planet in the dusk, and visible even before the last light of the sun goes out.

The journey is the destination!

Another sunset seems to be radiating golden cirrus clouds!

Mall Road on Manali is chock full, and smells of sweat, frying pakodas, the nearby Sulabh urinal, and the mandir in the background. Manali and Kullu are places best not visited, but I had to catch the bus from Manali to Delhi.
